Why Dentale?
Quite simply we think it is the best implant training anywhere. Fullstop.
The reason for this bold statement is the unique way that we teach. First we teach the theory (or you may already have done this part) then you treat real patients. A lot of real patients with different cases and from start to finish. And we produce your individual Skills Portfolio demonstrating all the treatment cases that you carry out when you are here.
Do I have to bring my own patients?
No, we provide and arrange everything. However we can accommodate your patients if you wish.
Can I bring a nurse?
This is a good idea. You have to agree this with us on what day as this has to be structured but you nurse would benefit enormously and we do not even charge for this!
Is this an alternative to the mentor system?
Yes, the idea of learning from a more experienced colleague is great but fraught with practical problems. Whose practice is the patient seen at, what days are possible, does the mentor have to be paid – are just a few of these problems. The 10 day course offers a practical alternative which is far more efficient – and you do not have to find the patients, we do that.
How many patients will I treat?
We guarantee you will follow a minimum of 6 cases from initial assessment through to final restoration all of which will be included in a portfolio. These patients will usually be of different types, aesthetic cases, bridges, overdentures etc. Many more patients are seen than the 6 minimum but sometimes it is not possible to follow them through to completion. Typically about 20 implants are placed by each dentist.
What do the patients think?
We have a waiting list of patients. They are all aware of the fact that we are a training clinic. As such they expect the tutor to make suggestions and comments. This frees the dentists from pressure to “maintain face”. Such a straightforward and open atmosphere helps everyone.
How much does it cost?
The Introductory Week Long Course is £2000; the Advanced Practical Implantology Course is £500 per day. This includes absolutely everything that you will need, lunch and refreshments.
I have done implant courses already, can I join the Advanced Practical Implantology Course?
Yes, provided that you can prove with certificates that you have attended courses which would give an adequate theoretical knowledge. We cannot give an exhaustive list as the courses change, but check this on the application form. The courses can be diplomas, MSc year long, manufacturers’ courses – but we have to ensure the patients are treated by someone with adequate knowledge and so acceptance on the course has to be subject to our approval.
Do I have to tell my professional indemnity insurers?
Yes. Acceptance onto a course is subject to proof of adequate professional indemnity cover.
I am an overseas dentist – can I attend your courses?
Yes, we have trained many overseas dentists. However all dentists have to prove registration in the UK with the GDC as well as the other requirements.
Is my deposit refundable?
You are not on a course until you have paid a deposit. Given that patients are booked in for each course then we cannot change dates or bookings at short notice.
What implant system is used on the course?
We use the Dentium implant system as supplied by Implantium UK Ltd. This is for practical reasons but there is absolutely no compulsion or sales pressure to use this system outside of the course. We offer a free voluntary introduction to the system components outside of the course timetable or can supply complete documentation.
We teach you to put implants in, not sell you a system!
Are the dates flexible?
Please see our course calendar.
What other courses are available?
See our course portfolio.
I am doing an MSc – are there any research opportunities?
Yes, we have a research arm RED and are developing many research projects and so there are many possibilities here after the course is completed. This would be something to discuss with the course tutor.
How many delegates attend each course?
Approximately 6 to 8 delegates attend one of our Introductory Week Long courses and 3 – 4 delegates attend our Advanced Practical Implantology Courses. This means we can offer you a significant amount of one to one time with the course tutor.
Is a portfolio created of all the cases that are completed for each delegate?
Yes, at the end of the course you will be given a Skills Portfolio. Your portfolio will demonstrate all the treatments that you carry out when you are with us including assessment forms, clinical notes and photographs
